Riviera Unveils Two Big Firsts: Dedicated Solo Ship & Expansion to Asia

Riviera Travel made two big announcements this month.

First, and this one really caught our eye, Riviera is launching the world’s first river ship dedicated entirely to solo travelers. Starting in June 2027, the MS George Eliot will sail the Danube, Rhine and Moselle with no single supplement and space for just 68 guests. Riviera has offered the most solo-friendly departures in the river cruise industry for years, but this is the first time an entire ship and season will belong to solo cruisers.

The ship, originally designed for 140 passengers, will now carry less than half that number, meaning lots of space and a crew-to-guest ratio of about one to two. Most cabins will have French balconies, and there will be social touches built in: welcome receptions, hosted dinners and easy ways for guests to meet if they want to.

At the same time, Riviera is also looking far beyond Europe. The company announced its first move into Asia with the debut of the Riviera Alba on the Mekong River in September 2027. The ship will carry just 50 guests in 25 suites and bring Riviera’s style to Vietnam and Cambodia. Think open decks, a pool and jacuzzi and a mix of international and authentic Asian cuisine.

The new Vietnam, Cambodia & Mekong River Cruise will be 13 nights with 14 guided experiences – everything from Phnom Penh to smaller, lesser-known villages along the river, plus time in Siem Reap to explore Angkor Wat.

Both announcements come with early booking perks: Riviera is offering up to 50% off select 2027 sailings and two-for-one airfare credits on certain 2026 departures if you book flights through them by December 5, 2025.

For solo travelers, the George Eliot could make trying river cruising easier and more comfortable, no single supplement and a ship designed with you in mind. And for anyone who’s dreamed about the Mekong, Riviera’s move into Asia means another solid option for exploring Vietnam and Cambodia.
