You may recognize the face on the left.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In fact, this week and next we&#8217;re experiencing Avalon&#8217;s Active Discovery excursions on the Rhine while cruising on Avalon Visionary. On an Active Discovery tour today in Amsterdam, we painted still-life images inspired by Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new Active Discovery on the Rhine cruises (8 days from Amsterdam to Frankfurt or the reverse) introduce travelers to the people and places of Europe in the most active, engaged and fun ways imaginable,\u201d said Terri Burke, managing director of Avalon Waterways. \u201cThey can bike along the Rhine River, take a running tour of Amsterdam or hike on incredible trails.&nbsp; They can also immerse themselves in history and culture in each port with excursions to historic castles, a culinary tour or painting class. Avalon travelers can even dress up in real Roman attire and participate in a reenactment of the Roman Games, tour an extinct volcano and a coal mine \u2013 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the second year, Avalon Waterways is also offering travelers Active Discovery on the Danube cruises (9 days from Budapest to Linz or the reverse) which include opportunities to bike, hike, and canoe along the Danube River. Learn some of the local language, explore an ice cave, take an archery lesson, descend into an underground salt mine &#8230; or ascend a mountain during a guided climb. Conduct an orchestra, compose a waltz, play nine holes of golf or help a farmer in his apricot orchard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn both our Rhine and Danube River Active Discovery itineraries, every port gives travelers a world of possibilities as they interact with the locals and choose from a plethora of dynamic activities \u2013 a vast majority of which are included \u2013 that most appeal to them.
