While most news releases typically deal with new ships or itineraries, this latest one from AMAWATERWAYS caught our eye. Besides offering river cruises throughout the beautiful waterways of Europe, Russia Vietnam and Cambodia, the line announced its giving back to the citizens of Cambodia by co-sponsoring a new school in the province of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Together with the ODA Orphanage, the ODA Free Village English School will provide children with the ability to learn critical English-language skills – something that would be otherwise impossible.
Local dignitaries, residents and school children were in attendance at the official start of classes at the ODA Free Village English School. The ceremonies were marked with a blessing by local monks, traditional Apsara dances by the children, games, food and speeches. The new school likes near the famous temples of Angkor, and guests aboard AMAWATERWAYS 16-day Vietnam, Cambodia and the Riches of the Mekong itinerary have the opportunity to stop briefly at the school during their excursion to the nearby Banteay Srei temple.
For the line, this latest initiative is another way to give back to one of the regions that have captivated passengers and employees alike.
“We are very proud to sponsor this English school in a region where the children need every possible advantage. Our passengers derive much enjoyment from visiting this remarkable region of the world, known for its stunning temple complexes. Many of them are very touched by the plight of the local children, and this is our way of giving back to this area in a constructive and lasting manner,” said Rudi Schreiner, President of AMAWATERWAYS.

Having sailed on the La Marguerite in January, we are very pleased to hear about the support Ama is giving to people of Cambodia. It was a wonderful trip and now I can say, a wonderful company.
