Named after the historic Douro Valley region in which she sails, the Douro Spirit was christened in a lavish ceremony attended by dignitaries and executives, including Allan J. Katz, the United States Ambassador to Portugal.  Uniworld’s President, Guy Young, said of the event, “Uniworld is proud to have the new Douro Spirit to take our guests through this breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage region. The Douro Valley has been recognized by National Geographic Traveler as one of the World’s Great Places in their annual Destination Survey.”

In order to take advantage of the magnificent vistas along the Douro Valley, every stateroom aboard the new Douro Spirit features a French balcony.  Carrying just 128 guests, Douro Spirit’s diverse public areas add to the passenger experience and include a main lounge complete with full bar and dance floor, a main restaurant, a spa, beauty salon, boutique and an expansive sun deck with a Jacuzzi and even a small swimming pool – a rarity among many river cruise vessels.

To fully explore this fantastic region, which is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, Uniworld offers an 11-day Portugal, Spain & the Douro River Valley itinerary featuring three nights in Lisbon, a seven-night cruise aboard the Douro Spirit, ten fully hosted shore excursions, and all beverages including beer, wine and soft drinks with dinner.  Transfers on arrival and departure days are also included.
