The Avid Cruiser’s Ralph Grizzle has been a busy man: after taking part in the christening ceremonies of four of Viking River Cruises‘ new Longships in Amsterdam, he joined the beautiful Viking Odin for a two-night preview cruise that explored some of the most beautiful locations the Netherlands has to offer.
What he discovered was a ship that is remarkable in its design and appointments. In fact, he found Viking Odin to be very reminiscent of the most recent ultra-luxury ships constructed for Seabourn.
As he writes in his three-part series on The Avid Cruiser website, parent site of River Cruise Advisor, there’s good reason for this: the Viking Longships were designed by the very capable Norwegian team at Yran & Storbraaten, who have an impressive list of oceangoing credits behind them, including Seabourn’s recent ships and the breathtaking new Disney Fantasy.

But Ralph also had time to explore the beautiful Dutch countryside, which he writes about in his posts “Exploring Kinderdijk and its Windmills”, “In the Footsteps of Van Gogh” and “Volendam, Edam and Marken.”
Regardless of where they sail, the Viking Longships seem poised to usher in a new chapter in the short yet successful history of Viking River Cruises.
