California-based AmaWaterways has teamed up with Lynda McHenry, a veteran travel agent and founder of Gluten Free Cruises to offer a Gluten Free river cruise along the Danube from Budapest, Hungary to Vilshofen, Germany.

Departing May 22, 2013, this Romantic Danube – Gluten Free voyage will take place aboard the new AmaPrima, and came about as a result of McHenry’s personal experiences as a parent of a daughter who is gluten-intolerant. Years later, it turned out that McHenry and her husband also suffered from gluten intolerance, an ailment that places heavy dietary restrictions on those afflicted with it.
“This Gluten Free River Cruise is the natural evolution of the lifestyle we have embraced since our daughter’s difficultly with her Gluten intolerance. Since then we have opened both a dedicated Gluten Free grain company and dedicated Gluten Free restaurant, Eats & Treats Café, in our hometown of Corvallis, Oregon. And we are very pleased to be partnering up with AmaWaterways on this new venture, a company that has been delivering a quality product to my clients for ten years,” said McHenry.
In addition to being able to experience the beauty of Europe’s Danube river secure in the knowledge that guests’ food needs are taken care of, AmaWaterways and McHenry have brought in three Gluten-free Chefs and food experts to give lectures, cooking demonstrations and mingle with passengers. These include Jules Shepard of Jules Gluten Free, Chef and cookbook author of Jules Gluten Free; Anne Roland Lee, MSEd, RD, LD, Director of Nutritional Services for Schar USA; and Nadine Grzeskowiak, RN, CEN National Expert & Speaker for Recognition & Treatment of Gluten Intolerance & Celiac Disease.
The goal is to not just attract those who suffer from gluten intolerance, but also food lovers who have friends and family afflicted with the disorder and want to know how to create delicious, safe meals for them.
For those who have always dreamed of taking a river cruise without the fear of having to manage their gluten intolerance in a foreign country, AmaWaterways and Gluten Free Cruises have taken that stress out of the equation.
This voyage can be booked directly through Gluten Free Cruises.
