In the river cruise industry, competition is fierce, and the battle to win the hearts and minds (not to mention, wallets) of potential travellers is an ongoing one that not only breeds creativity, but also innovation.

In that spirit, California-based AmaWaterways was recently recognized by Porthole Cruise Magazine as “Best River Cruise” in the publication’s 14th Annual Reader’s Choice Awards. The magazine’s readers were invited to vote on what they considered to be the “best of the best” in a variety of cruise categories.
“We are delighted to be recognized by Porthole Cruise Magazine’s readers as the ‘Best River Cruise,'” says Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways’ executive vice president and co-owner. “This award represents our commitment to creating the world’s best river cruise experience. We are very grateful for the hard work of every member of our AmaWaterways family, and their dedication to service really shines through with this award.”
Bill Panoff, publisher and editor-in-chief of Porthole Cruise Magazine, said: “Our readers are discerning travelers who have come to expect only the highest standards of quality, product, and service from cruise lines and destinations. For AmaWaterways to have received the readers’ seal of approval in this category is truly an honor.”

AmaWaterways was founded just a decade ago by Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and Jimmy Murphy. Since then, the line has grown to offer a fleet of 14 purpose-built river cruise vessels throughout Europe, Russia, Vietnam & Cambodia, and Africa.

In 2013, the line is poised to introduce the brand-new AmaPrima. Sister-ship to the newly launched AmaCerto, AmaPrima will carry 164 guests along Europe’s most beautiful waterways in comfort and style. Staterooms featuring twin balconies and onboard amenities such as multiple dining venues and a heated pool make this one of AmaWaterways’ most advanced — and feature-laden — ships in service.
It will also offer voyages through Portugal’s Douro Valley, famous for its Port Wine production, next year aboard the 106-guest AmaVida.
