More exciting news from AmaWaterways: The popular river cruise line has announced that Celebrity Chef Bob Blumer — host of the Food Network’s The Surreal Gourmet and Glutton for Punishment — will host a Gourmet Cruise through Portugal and Spain, departing October 22, 2013.
Taking place on the brand-new AmaVida, this exciting Gourmet Cruise will sail Portugal’s historic Douro River through the famous port wine epicenter known as the Douro River Valley. Along the way, excursions to some of the region’s most fascinating ports of call will be included, along with private wine tastings and cooking demonstrations highlighting regionally inspired cuisine.
“Our guests are very passionate about good food and wine, and having Chef Blumer host our first Gourmet Cruise will be such a treat for them,” says Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways’ executive vice president and co-owner. “People have such limited free time these days [that] they are using their vacation time to pursue their hobbies. The brand-new AmaVida will embark on her maiden voyage later this month in Porto, Portugal. With a maximum capacity of 106, AmaVida features spacious staterooms and suites that measure up to 323 square feet. Free-flowing local wines and beer are served with lunch and dinner, and the ship also features complimentary in-room Internet and Wi-Fi access.
AmaWaterways also has a unique interest in offering special culinary voyages like this: It is the only river cruise line to be inducted into the prestigious La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs culinary organization. In recognition of that, the line continues to provide guests with innovative food and wine experiences, both onboard and ashore.
