Decades ago I set out on a journey to circumnavigate the United States – by bicycle. Pedaling with me was a friend, who went on to join the Peace Corps, volunteering in Central America, and then a businessman, who amassed millions of dollars. Through much fault of his own but also through corruption and circumstances, he lost everything. He could live with his mistakes, his fall from fortune, were it not for one thing: He has a six-year-old son with a heart condition that will likely kill him, unless he gets proper medical care.

Mike is locked in one of Dante’s Circles of Hell, caught in a bureaucratic chokehold with his son caught in the middle. His situation has surpassed desperate, and so he reached out to me to see if I could help by reaching out to my readers in the hope of finding a few compassionate people.
