Avalon Waterways’ COVID-19 Response & 2021 Plans [Interview]

This week I sat down with Avalon Waterways’ Managing Director, Pam Hoffee. Hoffee and I took this time to answer some of the questions that you have about how river cruise companies, specifically Avalon, are preparing to return to cruising.

On a lighter note, we also spoke about what Avalon has in store for 2021, such as new itineraries. For those who wish to go directly to that part of the interview, you can skip forward to 27:40.

To learn more about Avalon’s COVID-19 response and 2021 offerings, listen to the podcast below.

Note: At the time of publishing, Avalon has suspended global operations through August 31, 2020.

  1. We are traveling from Amsterdam to Zurich on a river cruise in August. Is it safe to go. Most stops are in Germany on the Rhine river

  2. I and 3 others have a December cruise booked to see the Christmas Markets. It appears that many of those have been cancelled. Further, we don’t want to wear masks for 8 days – do you have a suggestion? Should we possibly do this next year instead?

  3. Hello, Peter. We want your cruise with Avalon Waterways to be the vacation of your dreams and the experience to be safe and enjoyable for you. If you and your traveling party are interested in moving to a 2021 date, we encourage you to contact us at 877.797.8791 to discuss your options or contact your travel advisor if you booked with them directly.

In addition, we are happy to introduce our Avalon Assurance program to ensure the health – and happiness of our guests throughout their cruise with us. (https://www.avalonwaterways.com/avalon-assurance/ )

We appreciate you choosing Avalon Waterways and look forward to welcoming you onboard when the time is right for you.

  4. Our group has scheduled the Danube River cruise for early October 2020. It starts in Budapest to Nuremberg then a side trip to Prague. Since we are all in ou 70’s, we are pretty concerned about traveling this year given the uncertainty of the potential for exposure to Covid 19, even that far out. Not only are we worried about the difficulty of social distance on the ship, and the plane ride to and from, but we wonder about the safety at each port of call. Frankly, we don’t think it would be pleasurable to have to tour wearing face masks the whole time. We have a July 1 date for remitting the balance for our trip. There are seven of us. We are wondering what to do. We are very open to rescheduling the cruise for sometime in 2021 if that makes sense. We would appreciate whatever feedback you can provide at this date.
