We chose the Rhône for our this year’s Dream Cruise because, well, simply, we love Provence. The Dream Cruise is an annual hosted river cruise led by us, your River Cruise Advisors, bringing together like-minded readers of our blog for a week of exploration, culture, and relaxation. It’s also an ideal option for those nervous about traveling to Europe alone, as we offer our expert guidance and companionship (yes, everyone leaves my new bestie).

This year, we’ll sail the Rhône aboard AmaKristina from October 16-23, 2025, offering daily excursions that allow you to dive into local culture, cuisine, history, and landscapes – all hosted by Ralph and me to ensure a seamless and, most importantly, fun experience for every guest.
I’m excited to share AmaWaterways’ list of curated excursions below, many of which have become our personal favorites from past cruises. Most days on the Rhône offer multiple excursion choices, from city tours and culinary experiences to active bike rides and historical explorations, giving you plenty of options to shape your perfect itinerary.
Lyon

Start your journey in Lyon, France’s culinary capital. Opt for a walking tour through Roman roads and hidden traboules, explore Les Halles Market for a culinary experience, or join a guided bike tour along the Saône River’s scenic paths.
Beaujolais
Beaujolais, it’s just so fun to say.
Sip wines in the Beaujolais region, where picturesque villages and vineyards make for a relaxed and enjoyable stop. It’s a simple pleasure – great wine, great scenery, and a slower pace.
Vienne

No, not Vienna. Vienne.
Choose from a walking tour that follows in the footsteps of the ancient Romans, a hike to Mont Pipet for panoramic views, or a bike ride along the ViaRhôna trail through vineyards and riverside paths.
Tournon & Viviers

Viviers is one of my favorite cities on this itinerary – I always think of the tree-lined streets first. There, you will take an evening ghost walk through the medieval town.
But earlier in the day, in Tournon, ride a vintage steam train through the Doux Gorge, hike Tain-l’Hermitage’s vineyards, or enjoy a wine and chocolate tasting.
Avignon
In Avignon, choose from a walking tour that takes you through the Papal Palace, a bike tour through the countryside, a tasting tour with stops for local specialties, or an afternoon exploring the Pont du Gard aqueduct or a truffle farm in Grignan.

Arles
In Arles, choose from a walking tour of the Roman amphitheater and historic center, a bike ride through the city and countryside, or a Van Gogh-themed walking tour that traces the artist’s time here.
You can also choose to visit Les Baux de Provence, a charming hilltop village, for a day trip.
Join Us on the Rhône
Our last Dream Cruise aboard AmaPrima was unforgettable – not just because of the wonderful crew, but also because of the mix of excursions, beautiful towns, and shared experiences with fellow travelers. This year’s cruise on AmaKristina promises a laid-back adventure with plenty of memorable moments.
We’re excited to revisit our favorite spots and discover new ones with you. If you’re ready for a week of good wine, picturesque towns, and stress-free travel, come cruise the Rhône with us this October. We can’t wait to share the journey with you.
