Myanmar looks like it might become the next hot destination in river cruising: Luxury cruise and safari operator Sanctuary Retreats has announced plans to launch a new river cruise vessel in Myanmar by the end of 2014.
Named the Sanctuary Ananda, the forthcoming four-deck ship will feature 20 spacious suites and will be capable of accommodating a maximum of just 48 guests. Five special luxury suites will feature private butler service, according to Sanctuary Retreats.
Initial launch itineraries will include three, four and seven-night voyages between Bagan and Mandalay along with longer seven, 10, and 11-night cruises that sail the lower Ayeyawady River. Current plans are for the ship to sail a handful of departures that will travel to Yangon.
Guests can also get the authentic Myanmar experience both onboard and ashore, with visits to local villages and introductions to local crafts, monasteries and sites of historical importance. Onboard the Sanctuary Ananda, guests can enjoy a traditional breakfast of mohinga (fish noodle soup) alongside more traditional hot and continental fare.
Lunch and dinner will also offer a variety of local specialities and ingredients, paired with more conservative dishes.
Full itinerary and vessel details on the Sanctuary Ananda are still emerging, but we’ll bring you all the details here on River Cruise Advisor as they become available.
