How To Avoid The Nation’s Air Travel Chaos When Getting To Your River Cruise

Do the current flight delays at U.S. airports cause you concern about missing your river cruise? It concerns us. That said, we always advise spending at least one night (two or three are better) before your embarkation in the city where your river cruise departs. That gives you plenty of time to make things right should things go wrong. And it allows you to acclimate to the new time zone.

At the moment, we would be inclined to avoid Newark, but things could resolve there quickly. As you’ll read in Flight Delays: Will You Miss Your River Cruise? Britton spent a miserable night at Atlanta’s airport.

What’s your take on the issue? We asked subscribers in our Facebook group, River Cruise Advisor Crew. Here are a few of their answers.

We try arrive at least two days early mostly to get acclimated to the new time zone as well as account for any potential delays. We just got back from Vietnam on a wonderful AmaWaterways tour and getting there early was great as it was over 26 hours door to door! – John and Janet Pyle

Opposite direction as we just returned from Europe and are sitting at Newark right now with a delayed flight of at least a couple of hours. I think it might end up longer than that. Just heard an announcement that another flight is delayed over four hours. – Susan Warren

We once booked a flight to Athens so that we would have four days to spend touring before our cruise. We got there the day before. – Theresa Russell
