Day 3 On Uniworld’s S.S. Catherine: Public Room Tour & The Royal Suite
Yesterday, I outlined some of the features that I believe make Uniworld’s S.S. Catherine a “Ship of Elegance.” Today, I will take you for a tour of some of the public rooms. There are not that many public rooms, of course, on any river cruise vessel. On S.S. Catherine, primary public rooms are the Cezanne Restaurant on deck 3, the Van Gogh Lounge one deck above, and the Bar du Leopard, aft on deck 4. There’s also a decent-sized fitness room that some of you have asked to see.
I’ve already posted quite a few photos of the stunning vessel at these links: S.S. Catherine Christening, including photos of my stateroom, a category 2 room on deck 3, number 326; and Uniworld’s S.S. Catherine: Ship Of Elegance.
There’s not a lot of commentary with the photos. The pictures themselves pretty much say all there is to say. Should you have questions, however, please leave a comment in the box at the bottom of this page. We’ll see your comment, and we’ll respond.

Ralph,
Just got Info and Pictures from Scott Muller of Catherine! The TV in the Sitting Room of the Catherine is IN THE MIRROR behind the couch!! Also the TV in the Bathroom. Breakers in Palm beach had that feature a few years ago – very neat. And they have Chairs on order for the Sitting Room. I should have assumed that. Uniworld generally does not slip up!! And Scott has been fabulous in answering my questions!

Thank you for all 3 of your articles, especially this one. We board Catherine at Lyon on April 27th and are fortunate to have the Royal Suite. Appreciate your many pictures of that Suite – a paucity of said Suite until now. Not surprisingly, it is very much like the Royal Suite we had on the Antoinette in 2011 when she was new in the water. If you have other pictures facing the Cabin Door, Closets and/or Cabinets, I would appreciate you adding them.
The layout of the room is better than Antoinette in that they had a much bigger Table and Couches in the Center and with this this layout, Catherine has much more space available. That’s a good thing as Antoinette was a bit crowded, albeit a fabulous Suite!! And Antoinette has a very large and heavy Iron Chandelier in the center was foreboding to boot!!
And I am willing to bet that you have NOT found a better Bathroom in the River Boat Fleets of the World – it is about the same size and amenities as the Bathrooms we had on larger Cruise Ships, the Seabourn Quest and the Seabourn Sojourn, in their Penthouse Suites! Fabulous luxury on a cruise!!
Thanks again.

Very true about the bathroom. I’ve not seen one better. In fact, the tub was larger than I recall seeing on the ocean-going ships. Yes, Uniworld certainly has it when it comes to luxury. Thanks for adding your comments Bud. Helpful for all.

BTW, in your pictures of the Royal Suite, I did not see a TV in the Living Room. That would be odd, IMO! Did you notice one in that room, besides the TV in the far corner of the Bed Room? The real oddity is that the Antoinette had FOUR TV’s (Bedroom in Canopy Bed, Balcony, Living Room, and Bathroom). Also I do not see a Chair with Arms and Back. Again, I find that odd. Your comments appreciated.

I’ve looked back at my photos, and you’re correct. I do not see one. You’d probably need to write Uniworld for clarification, but if there was a television in the living room, it was not apparent. I’m not quite sure where they would have put it if there was one anyway.

Thanks. Find that odd, as I do that there is no Chair with arms and back in the Suite. I’ll ask them.

Hello Mr. Henry!
We agree, it would be odd if there were no televisions in the Living Room and Bathroom, but we assure you that they are indeed there :-). Both the Living Room and Bathroom feature mirror TVs built right into the walls! I have attached one of Mr. Grizzle’s photo’s of the Living Room so you can get a sense of where the TV is located. We had the opportunity to tour the Catherine this past week, and I must say it’s quite an amazing feature.
You make another great observation regarding the chair with arms and a back. We do have a pair of comfortable (but not too big), antique arm chairs that are being delivered to the Owner’s Suite on the S.S. Catherine. Unfortunately, while we did our best to have them delivered on time, they will not make it in time for your departure.
We’re very excited to have you join us on the 27th and can’t wait to see what you think!
As always, if you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Regards,
Chris Diaz – Uniworld Community Manager

Well, I think that solves a couple of mysteries. Thanks for following up Chris. It’s nice to learn about the televisions and the the arm chairs. She’s a beautiful ship, and I envy Bud for being able to do a full cruise. Bon voyage!

Chris – we are sailing in June and I was wondering if the dining room had tables for 2
