Douro River Stateroom Size Comparisons

How do stateroom sizes compare for ships that cruise on the Douro River? Only about half of all river cruise companies offer itineraries on the Douro. We’ll look at comparisons between AmaWaterways, CroisiEurope, Scenic, Uniworld and Viking River Cruises.

Most companies have only one vessel on the Douro River. Viking River Cruises is one exception with three ships – the Viking Hemming, Viking Osfrid and Viking Torgil. And CroisiEurope is the other. Its Douro River cruise ships include the MS Fernao de Magalhaes, MS Gil Eanes, MS Infante don Henrique and the MS Vasco de Gama.

The table below lists the smallest, largest and most common stateroom sizes for each of the five companies listed above. Let’s see how they compare.

Single Stateroom Size Comparisons

There are no single cabins on Douro River cruise ships for AmaWaterways, CroisiEurope, Scenic, Uniworld or Viking River Cruises. This is due to the fact that vessels on this waterway tend to be significantly smaller than those on other rivers in Europe. Average ship length is about 256 feet.

Smallest Stateroom Size Comparisons

The smallest staterooms on Douro River ships range in size from 129 square feet to 172 square feet with the average being about 160 square feet.

CroisiEurope has the smallest double staterooms and Scenic has the largest. AmaWaterways, Uniworld and Viking River Cruises are somewhere in the middle.

Largest Double Stateroom Size Comparisons

For Douro River cruise ships, the largest staterooms range in size from 129 square feet up to 420 square feet, depending on the company. CroisiEurope’s staterooms are the smallest at 129 square feet.

The largest cabin size for all other river cruise companies is more than 300 square feet. Largest staterooms size for AmaWaterways and Uniworld is 323 square feet; and for Viking River Cruises, the biggest cabins measure 302 square feet.

Scenic is the only company that has staterooms exceeding 400 square feet. The Royal One-Bedroom Suite on the Scenic Azure measures 420 square feet.

Most Common Stateroom Size Comparisons

The most common stateroom size on all Douro River cruise vessels ranges between 129 square feet and 215 square feet. CroisiEurope has the smallest, and AmaWaterways and Scenic have the largest. Viking has the second largest at 185 square feet. And close behind, Uniworld’s most common cabins are 161 square feet in size.

Which Company Has the Largest Staterooms?

Scenic has the largest staterooms in all categories followed by AmaWaterways. For smallest double staterooms, there’s only a minimal difference between the two; and the most common stateroom size is identical. However, for the largest double staterooms, Scenic’s are 420 square feet and AmaWaterways are 323 square feet. That’s a difference of about 100 square feet, which is pretty sizeable.
