Due to low water levels between Passau and Regensburg, some ships were stuck in Passau earlier this week. Thankfully, that stretch of the Danube is rising now and ships are passing. The issue of altered plans raises questions, however: When Mother Nature forces river cruise companies to deviate, what responsibility does the cruise company bear? Are deviations due to water levels something they should compensate for – or should river cruise guests be forgiving?

In a recent survey, we asked readers what, if anything, was holding them back from river cruising in Europe. More than half of respondents told us that nothing is holding them back. They already have river cruises booked for the remainder of this year or at some point next year. That’s good news. We’re glad to see people getting back into river cruising.
