Why this journey is exceptional
This rare itinerary combines the ease of small-ship travel with the excitement of an African safari—and handles the complicated logistics of crossing four countries for you.
Explore one of Africa’s greatest wildlife regions in 4x4 vehicles and private boats, with extraordinary opportunities to see elephants.
Settle into the wilderness on Impalila Island, with spacious bungalows, a pool and time to appreciate the stillness around you.
Sail through remote, mystical landscapes aboard an eight-cabin ship and explore Matusadona National Park.
Experience the “smoke that thunders” on foot, with the option to see one of the world’s great natural wonders from a helicopter.
A personal invitation
I have spent much of my career exploring the world by water, but this is no conventional river cruise. It combines the intimacy and ease of a small ship with the wildlife encounters of a traditional African safari.
I will personally host a maximum of 14 guests. We’ll share meals, safaris and discoveries, while CroisiEurope manages the complicated logistics among four countries. If Africa has been on your list but you haven’t wanted to navigate it alone, this is an unusually comfortable way to experience it.

Your journey
Watch for hippos and crocodiles as you travel by private boat to a secluded lodge. Search for elephants in Chobe, fly over the savannah to Lake Kariba, explore Matusadona National Park and finish beneath the mist of Victoria Falls.
Meet at the hotel, visit the Apartheid Museum and explore Johannesburg on a panoramic city tour. Dinner and overnight at a five-star hotel.
Fly to Botswana, then travel by small private boat to the lodge on Impalila Island in Namibia. Watch for birdlife, hippos and crocodiles along the way.
Set out on a 4x4 game drive in a park renowned for its elephant population, followed by a private boat safari along the Chobe River.
Visit traditional Namibian villages, then explore the Zambezi River by private boat. In the evening, hear local traditions and legends from your guide.
Enjoy another 4x4 safari in search of lions, buffalo, giraffes, antelopes and abundant birdlife, followed by time to relax at the lodge.
After a final water safari, board a private aircraft for sweeping views of the savannah. Embark your intimate ship and begin sailing Lake Kariba.
Explore this pristine wilderness by 4x4, watching for elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, birds and—if luck is with us—a big cat.
Travel the park’s small waterways by private boat, continue by 4x4, then gather on the sun deck for stargazing after nightfall.
Sail among Lake Kariba’s rare landscapes, learn about the lake and its inhabitants, and head out by private boat to admire an African sunset.
See Kariba Dam, fly by private aircraft to Victoria Falls, enjoy a lunch cruise on the upper Zambezi and tour the falls on foot.
Choose an optional early helicopter flight, relax at the hotel or visit town before the hosted program concludes at approximately 10:30 a.m.
