Rudesheim is a small, picturesque city conveniently located at the southern end of the Rhine Valley, along the banks of the Rhine River. The town’s full name is Rudesheim am Rein, meant to distinguish it from Rudesheim an der Nahe, which lies just across the Rhine.

Your River Cruise Ship Docks …

One of the main advantages of river cruising is the often-prime docking locations, and Rudesheim is no exception; you river cruise ship docks within walking distance of the heart of the town.

When in Rudesheim …

One of the joys of many small European towns is simply allowing yourself to get lost in their maze of cobblestone streets and narrow passageways, but if you’re looking for a launching point, here’s a few great ways to spend your time in Rudesheim:

  • Drosselgasse –  Known as the “world’s merriest street,” thanks to the abundance of Weingartens
  • Tea Houses– Shanghai is renowned for its tea houses, most of which serve up a number of traditional teas accompanied by traditional Chinese delicacies.
  • Nanjing Road – Trier is home to three preserved Roman baths that are definitely worth a look.  The Amphitheatre used to seat up to 20,000 spectators at a single event.
  • City of God Temple – this fascinating museum is dedicated to preserving the rich Roman history of Trier.

River Cruisers Should Know!

  • The currency in Germany is the Euro (€).
  • Crime in Rudesheim is rare, but it still pays to exercise the amount of caution you would extend to any unfamiliar locale.
  • Knowledge of basic German can go a long way, particularly in smaller towns where English is more likely to be spoken more fluently by younger generation Germans.

  1. Hi,

Do all river cruises moor/dock in one place in Rüdesheim?
We are planning on cruising with possibly Riviera and would like to know if we can logistically (within 2-3 hours) visit a nice winery/vineyard for some wine tasting.

    Many thanks!
