AmaWaterways is making a series of upgrades across its fleet this season, with updates that cover everything from stateroom comforts to dining and wine.

The company’s newest ship, AmaSofia (pictured above) highlights AmaWaterways’ refreshed look, but many of these enhancements have been rolling out across the fleet since the beginning of the year.
CEO Catherine Powell says the focus is simple: continue raising the bar while staying true to what makes Ama distinct. In other words, improve the experience without losing the personality.
So what’s actually new?
The updates start before you even step onboard. AmaWaterways has shifted its exterior paint from a darker blue to a warmer tone, giving the ships a slightly softer look from the water.
Inside, guests can expect refreshed linens, updated robes and slippers, and new bath amenities from Dutch brand Marie-Stella-Maris. Ama has also introduced a retail partnership with cosmetics brand Laura Geller, with select products now available onboard.
On the culinary side, Ama is expanding its included dining program. Italian lunches are being added to The Chef’s Table on most ships, and dishes created by Culinary Director Chef Robert Kellerhals are becoming a more consistent presence. The main lounge, now called The Lark, will feature an all-day “Savor at The Lark” menu alongside its usual offerings.
Early feedback suggests these updates are resonating. One of our readers, Nikki Cantu, sailed with AmaWaterways in March and pointed to both the food and service as standout elements.
“I think their service and food were the best of any cruise I had been on,” she said. “Everyone was so helpful and kind, from housekeeping to waiters to the cruise manager David.”
There are also smaller additions that frequent guests will likely notice. A new bread program includes multiple fresh varieties baked daily and, let’s be honest, while it seems like a tiny detail – I always notice everyone reaching for the bread basket at dinner. No complaints here. Ama has also introduced snack stations with house-made options like protein balls, muesli bars, dried fruit, nuts and cookies, a great addition on river cruises where it can sometimes be difficult to find something to snack on between meals.
Wine. The wine list is expanding to include more than 30 complimentary red, white and rosé selections per sailing, with additional premium bottles available for purchase.
On select itineraries, guests will also find locally sourced chocolates in their staterooms, including on the Danube, where confections come from Austrian chocolatier Johannes Bachhalm.
Ama’s core inclusions remain unchanged: accommodations, all onboard meals, wine and beer with lunch and dinner plus during Sip and Sail, a selection of daily shore excursions, Wi-Fi and a dedicated Cruise Manager. One notable addition is complimentary soft drinks available throughout the day on most European ships. Diet Coke drinkers, you’re finally covered.
The line is also introducing updated branded elements onboard to reflect its refreshed visual identity.
We already know AmaWaterways is capable of delivering a memorable river cruise experience. These updates just build on what already sets it apart. We can’t wait to get onboard and see how it all comes together.
